A school notice board shows that prizes are packed in boxes of 24 pens and 36 pencils. The teacher wants to make identical prize kits without leaving any pen or pencil unused. What is the greatest number of identical kits that can be made?
Answer: 12 identical kits.
The greatest number of identical kits is the HCF of 24 and 36. Since $24=2^3\times3$ and $36=2^2\times3^2$, the HCF is $2^2\times3=12$.
